Okay, I'll weigh in here...my favorite book from childhood was Beautiful Joe, about a puppy that had been abused and abandoned (I think, or perhaps just taken from his abusers) and raised in a loving home by wonderful people, where he became a beautiful, loving animal.

Some of the books on your recent list were favorites, as well, but Beautiful Joe was my MOST favorite...I'm quite sure it was because I totally related to him!

Happy Valentine's Day, Carolyn!

XO

I've always loved to read and had many favorites so it is difficult to choose. Possibly my favorite was one by Laura Ingles Wilder, such Little House in the Big Woods.

Remembering that far back is hard.... having read so many words since but i do remember 'A Child in the Forest' by Winifred Foley. A tale of childhood and growing up in the Forest of Dean, beautifully written. Recommended even now.

Love you blog Claire xx

What an absolutely brilliant post! I loved reading from a very young age and have so many favourites... all the Enid Blytons of course, but maybe especially The Folk of the Faraway Tree series; Heidi; Little Women... just far too many more to list! Thank you for stirring up some wonderful memories...

I instantly though of The Billy goats Gruff. I loved this story as a child. I remember reading it at school and bringing it home to read with my Mum. The troll under the bridge was a scary creature!

Have a Happy Valentines.

My mother read bedtime stories to me for many many years. I still have the beat up Fairy Tale book here somewhere.
Another favorite when I was quite young was The Little Wooden Doll, I guess I could not read that one enough ;)

My very fav book was called the Wednesday Witch. I read it when I was about 9yrs old and I still have it, AND I still love it. (the front cover has come loose now tho) It's about a witch who rides on a vacuum cleaner instead of a broom! :D
